Half a Million and Counting!

Half a million is a big number. When I first started the Bonita project in 2001, I didn’t think at the time that it would come to this. Of course, the first seven years were fairly slow in terms of adoption, but over the last 15 months, since the forming of BonitaSoft, everything has been accelerated. We’re thrilled to share that today we surpassed 500,000 downloads of Bonita, our open source business process management (BPM) suite. It’s only been 10 months since we first released Bonita Open Solution 5.0 and demand has already grown by 400%!

The most significant breakthrough for BonitaSoft this year has been our extraordinary growth rate, which exceeded even our own expectations. As you can see from the graph below, downloads of Bonita increased exponentially over the past year, averaging 40,000 per month.

Over one-third of these downloads have come from the U.S. market and in addition to opening our first North American offices (in San Francisco and Boston) last month, we’ve added a number of North American companies to BonitaSoft’s growing customer list, including Atmel (a large manufacturing firm in San Jose, California) and Pfizer.

We’re also pleased that there has so much interest around the world. In October we opened an R&D center in Beijing and we’re going to continue expanding beyond our base in Europe as we strive to make the BPM experience more powerful, accessible and affordable for everyone.

With this growth comes more exciting responsibilities and challenges, so I am relocating to the U.S., where we see many opportunities to take BonitaSoft to the next stage. The next time you hear from me I’ll be writing to you from sunny (and sometimes rainy and foggy) San Francisco.
