TechChat #2: REST API Extensions, when and how to use them?

User Interface design capability evolves

You could say every business is the sum of its processes, because processes spell out how a business conducts its activities. It follows that a business must design its processes thoughtfully, to reflect its unique requirements and value propositions.

Specialized applications that implement those processes support the organization in maintaining competitive advantage. But an application is only as good as its users – and if they don’t adopt it or can’t use it well, there’s no net advantage.

The right user interface can make all the difference between a great application and a failed one.

End user needs and efficiency really depend on how they actually work and what information needs to be available to them. Personalized user interfaces, with user interfaces aligned to end users’ needs, are the key to powerful applications that can mean competitive differentiation.

Until recently, most BPM application platforms commonly offered task-oriented user interfaces which were fine for simple process-based applications: User sees tasks assigned to them, user completes tasks, user is done with the interface. But as applications gain sophistication and complexity, this kind of generic user interface is no longer enough.

Bonitasoft recognized this need and Bonita BPM has evolved to address it. For example, see the next page for examples of an inboxtype, task-oriented interface to approve a travel request followed by a customized interface built with a flexible UI designer.

Creating an experience for team members that is personalized, easy to use and addresses users’ specific needs increases adoption and acceptance of new business processes.
