What’s coming in digital process automation in 2021? Part 4

In this last post in my 4-part series I'll share my predictions for what's coming in digital process automation: there's a new sheriff in town...

The “wild west” of RPA will give way to governance

There are two trends emerging from the automate everything! wild west of the RPA market.

The first trend is consolidation of digital process automation and RPA technologies, as we see DPA vendors absorbing RPA technologies to consolidate their offering.

The second trend, which we’ll see more of in 2021, is the growing role of orchestration to integrate RPA more deliberately into end-to-end automation, with the imposition of business rules via DPA platforms to be sure that the wild, wherever-you-can-put it RPA activity in business process adheres to corporate governance.

And it’s good to have a new sheriff in town

Orchestrating the last frontier mix of services - legacy services, APIs, microservices, and people in business operations can seem to be pretty “wild west.” Life without rules can be fun, but can also be a bit dangerous, so it’s good to have the new sheriff in town to keep order.
